From London on recruitment and retention
WRITTEN BY Belinda Pratten
The first document sets standards for managing volunteers, identifies the knowledge and skills that managers need to do their job well and advises on how to put this into practice. It includes sections on:
• • developing strategies and policies to support volunteers;
• • promoting volunteering;
• • recruiting and inducting volunteers; and
• • managing and developing volunteers.
It can be downloaded at: http://www.skills-thirdsector.org.uk/national_occupational_standards/management_of_volunteers_standards/
The second document. Investing in Volunteers, is much shorter and gives an overview of good practice. This can be downloaded at: http://iiv.investinginvolunteers.org.uk/
…My colleague Janet Fleming was involved in developing the National Standards and is now working with me on this project…
